How Do You Define Independent?

February is National Senior Independence Month. The people who created this month did so to “allow senior citizens and community members to share resources that help the elderly live independent and full lives.” A lot of that wording is subjective. How do you define independent?

One Thing in Common

The 100 Year Stories category on the 100 Year Lifestyle website is filled with stories of people – both nonagenarians and centenarians. They are by all definitions living independent lives. Often they live in their own homes. Many still work. Almost all are contributing to their families, local communities, and society as a whole. Many haven’t retired, or have found a second calling. Some are athletes. There is one thing they all have in common. They are living their 100 Year Lifestyle, 100% for 100 Years or more, and show no signs of slowing down.

We’re All Different

The fact is, not everyone has a career they love so much that they can’t wait to start working every day – at the age of 100 – like attorney Stanley Sacks. Few of us aspire to be a physician, let alone be the world’s oldest living, practicing physician like Dr. Howard Tucker. Not everyone starts planning their 106th birthday party the day they turn 105, like Helen Marrese. Not everyone can hit a tennis ball with the accuracy and power of Phillip Allman, Jr. – at the age of 99.

Your Choice

With assisted living facilities popping up on every corner in America, some people are believing the “one size fits all” version of growing old. At 100 Year Lifestyle we know that you can live at 100% for 100 years or more. With the right lifestyle choices – including chiropractic care – you can enjoy life to its fullest. And that’s right up until your last breath. The choice is yours.

Stop Blaming Your Age

We all want to experience healthy longevity – and the truth is that age has nothing to do with health or quality of life. It’s all about the choices you make. Today there are people who are 100 years old who are jumping out of airplanes and traveling the world. There are also people in their 70s and 80s who are suffering in nursing homes.

If you could use some help creating the quality of life and healthy longevity you envision for yourself, contact a 100 Year Lifestyle provider near you. You can define independence for yourself. The best can be yet to come!
